Australasian Leisure Management is saddened to advise of the death of Malcolm Parkes, Vice President of the Sport and Play Industry Association (SAPIA) and an expert in sport surfacing.

The Queensland Manager for sport surfacing company Court Craft, Malcolm was known for his comprehensive skill set and extensive experience across various sectors.

His education included qualifications from the NZ Business School in Advanced Sales Management, as well as a Trade Certificate in Electrical Fitter Mechanics and an Advanced Trade Certificate in Basic Electronics.

Announcing Malcolm’s death, Sport and Play Industry Association (SAPIA) President, Mark Edmondson wrote “it is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of SAPIA Vice President Malcolm Parkes, who passed away in his sleep on Saturday.

“Malcolm had attended the Brisbane International tennis tournament the night before along with his partner Sue. Our thoughts are with Sue, Malcolm’s three daughters and his little grandson.

“He was only 65 years of age.

“Malcolm became associated with SAPIA in 2013 while working for Dynamic Sports Facilities. He later became Australian Director of California Sports Surfaces, and in the last few years was Queensland Manager of Court Craft. He was elected to the SAPIA Board as a Director in 2014. With over 45 years of construction industry experience, Malcolm was considered a specialist in sports surfaces.

“He was a good friend to many in the Association, and his loss will be felt keenly, both personally and professionally.”
