Born in the English county of Dorset, Nigel Benton is the co-founder and Publisher of Australasian Leisure Management, Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific’s only magazine for professionals in all areas of the leisure industry and the www.ausleisure.com.au website - the go to news resource for industry leaders and professionals.

With a long-term commitment to communicating all that is best about the leisure industry (aquatics, attractions, entertainment, events, fitness, parks, recreation, sport, tourism and venues) his career has been defined by an ability to develop and implement industry communications.

Starting his career working in heritage visitor attractions and then adventure travel in Africa and the Middle East, an interest in writing about his experiences led to his change of career into magazine journalism and publishing.

In addition to publishing, Nigel speaks on marketing communications at a range of industry events.

He was made a Life Member of the World Leisure and Recreation Association in 2006 and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (London).

In 2020, he launched the new Asian Leisure Business website.

As of October 2024, he was inducted into the Australian Fitness Awards Roll of Honour at the 2024 AUSactive National Awards.

Among a range of published works and features, his comments on a Blog (blogspot) from 2007 to 2011, when this website went live in its current form, may be interesting to reflect back on.

His philosophy on life is to be kind to all and to indulge those that you love.

His passions include family, Newcastle United and motorcycles (especially British ones) as well as caring for Stella the pug.

Kevin Wilson has worked in recreational programming for approximately 10 years and has a passion for recreational sport, leadership development and community. His research interests include sport participation, sport and recreation facilities, program outcomes and campus recreation. Over the last two years, he's served as a member of the NIRSA Canada Leadership Team. For his PhD, he'd like to conduct research in the Campus Recreation space to help better understand how post-secondary institutions and campus recreation professionals can understand and meet students' changing needs.

Mel Tempest

Fitness Business Influencer Speaker Podcaster

Mel Tempest is the Chief Executive and the founder at Ignite Fitness Business Events, the host and founder of The Gym Owners Fitness Business Podcast and The Womens Leaders Fitness Business Podcast.

In 2017, Tempest, who organises fitness business events and roundtable events globally, was the first Australian to receive an award from the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) and, in the same year her Ballarat health club was in the top three Smart Company Australian awards.

In 2019 and in 2020 she was recognised as a top three fitness business influencers in the USA by the Association Of Fitness Studios.

In 2005 she was the first Australian to receive approval from the Equal Opportunity Board and Human Rights Commission to open Australia’s first male gym.

In early 2021, she was named 2020 influencer of the year by the US-based Fitness Business Association.

Greg Blood

Greg Blood has extensive experience as a sport librarian and researcher with an interest is in the history and development of sport policy in Australia.

Employed as a librarian at Australian Institute of Sport/Australian Sports Commission from 1983 to 2011, since 2017 he has been Publications Officer, Australian Society of Sport History.

He also writes for Australian Sports Reflections.

Arthur Stanley

Chris Skinner

Chris Skinner is the widely respected Managing Director of leading fitness supplier HF Industries.

His 40 plus years of achievement in supplying the fitness industry was profiled in Australasian Leisure Management issue 138.

Earlier this year (2020) his book Everest and Beyond - The Himalayas by Bike was published, charting a motorcycle journey he and a group of friends undertook from the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu to the city of Lhasa, capital of the Chinese region of Tibet.

Anton Kajlich
