The Palais Theatre is an iconic live performance venue with 3000 people capacity, making it Australia’s largest, fully seated theatre. It conducts over 100 events per year, ranging from live music, theatre, comedy, opera, ballet, film and other community events. For over 90 years, the Palais Theatre has regularly hosted top musicians and performers, including the likes of Johnnie Ray, Bob Hope, The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Al Green, Kenny Rogers, The Monkeys and UB 40, to name a few.
We’re recruiting into a Facilities Manager to join the team, the key role will be to ensure the effective and efficient care and presentation of the theatre, ensuring best practise in areas such as, but not limited to: venue presentation, management of service providers, contracting, building & equipment maintenance, cleaning, storage, venue logistics, budget management, project management and delivery of the venue’s annual capital works program, record keeping and reporting.
As a member of the Palais Theatre team, you will work work closely with the Technical & Operations Manager to ensure an efficient and safe production and event deliver as well as a partner for Event Management team to ensure the overall effective and efficient delivery of Events and functions.
Some of your key responsibilities will be to:
• Coordinate and oversee the engagement and performance of all key service providers such as; trades, services, catering, OHS & all other building or BOH service provider, whilst ensuring all contractors and staff abide by the business policies and procedures and standard operating procedures (SOP’s) related to building care and maintenance
• Co-ordinate and facilitate access for all required emergency repair works including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, structural repairs in consultation with all stake holders whilst managing all preventive & corrective maintenance works
• Ensure compliance of all contractors entering the site for OHS requirements and maintain log of attendance & services performed
• Keep up to date records on service providers in areas such as; insurance, business registration, staff training and licences, etc.
• Manage and maintain Building Management System (MBS), incorporating all projects, maintenance and building service-related items ongoing within system
• Manage all suppliers servicing the ESM (Essential Safety Measures) and maintain all records & calendar for periodic inspection of but not limited to: Emergency & exit signs & lighting, emergency egress paths, fire safety, wet & dry fire systems and annual building inspections as required by arrangement
• Manage the annual certification and testing of all rigging & flying systems in coordination with the Technical & Operations Manager
• Project Manage & facilitate all approved major works & cap-ex programs in timelines that match the availability of the venue in consultation with the Venue Manager, Operations Manager and all stakeholders including Local council & regulatory authorities
• Ensure all works are quoted, costed, approved and all OHS requirements are attained before any works commence
• Carry out any other duties that are deemed reasonable and associated with the role
• Other Operational duties as reasonably requested
• Act in the role of Technical Manager in the absence of the Technical Manager
Who & what are we looking for?
• Experience in the industry preferable, but not essential.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays from time to time.
• High level of self-motivation, adaptability and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Good communication skills
• Good IT Skills and record keeping skills.
• Ability to work within a fast paced and ever-changing environment.
