International Media Manager

There is an opportunity for an International Media Manager to join the Marketing team on a 12 month contract covering a period of parental leave, starting in November. This position is responsible for setting the strategic approach, planning and implementation of Tourism Australia’s global media hosting program activity. 
 
Central to the role will be managing the global media hosting program including the development of the international media, broadcast and influencer hosting plans, global responsibility for the operation of the program and management of State and Territory Organisations (STOs) as it relates to International Media Hosting Program (IMHP).

With drive, motivation and energy, you will be responsible for delivering on the following:

• Ensure media visits are strategically aligned to Tourism Australia’s brand objectives.
• Managing the media hosting program to ensure the successful delivery of the program which includes the distribution of publicity to tourism operators, managing IT support platforms, visit management processes and administration.
• Managing and reducing the risk profile associated with hosting visits within Australia.
• Allocating visits to coordinators and delivering them in line with the objectives, budgets and expectations as set by the Head of PR. This includes working closely with STOs and industry.
• Managing contractors who are employed to assist with visit coordination.
• Working with Head of Advocacy and Production to identify advocacy opportunities and collaborate on international media program integration.
• Managing media programs for major Tourism Australia trade shows based in Australia including the Australian Tourism Exchange and Dreamtime. This includes overseeing media targets, developing the communications strategy and delivery of media-friendly content designed to motivate publicity generation.
• Keeping abreast of Australian tourism offerings, including identifying and maintaining knowledge about premium products and services in line with Brand Australia’s positioning objectives and informing the international PR network of industry developments.
• Managing any budgets associated with IMHP activities as and when developed to support specific programs.
• Providing administration support as required, frequently including monitoring of media, reporting and updating of information in relevant databases to ensure accurate record maintenance.
 
To deliver on the above, your resume will demonstrate the following:
 
• Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or other related field.
• Strong communication skills in English (reading/writing and oral/aural).
• Strong working knowledge of the global media landscape.
• Sound tourism product knowledge and awareness.
• Ability to build and maintain strong links and mutual relationships with:
  o State and Territory Tourism Organisations
  o Tourism operators
  o Tourism Australia’s global PR network
  o Government departments
• Demonstrated understanding of the protocols involved in managing international media relationships from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and different media landscapes.
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple visits from multiple countries simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of risk management and how to evaluate risk.
 
The icing on the cake (desired) but not essential:

• Experience working in the tourism industry or Australian holiday destinations
• Multi-linguistic ability
