read moreRecreation trails from Onslow to Dumbleyung will be upgraded following the announcement of this year's successful Lotterywest Trails Grants projects.
Western Australia Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the funding reinforced the importance of recreation trails to the health and wellbeing of individuals and their communities, stating "there is a direct correlation between the number and quality of recreational facilities such as trails and the health and vitality of our communities.
"The trails also deliver broader benefits, particularly through tourism."
The Trails Grants announcement is the latest result of a 13-year strong State Government partnership between the Department of Sport and Recreation and Lotterywest, which sees $1 million invested in our State's trails each year.
Lotterywest Chairman John Atkins also highlighted the value of trails and their impact, adding "trails allow us all to enjoy active recreation and to appreciate our natural and cultural environments in communities right across the State."
Some of this year's successful projects include:
• City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder - $57,500 towards the Karlkurla Bushland Trails upgrade
• Shire of Ashburton - $100,000 towards materials in the upgrading of the Onslow boardwalk trail
• Shire of Dumbleyung - $20,900 towards materials, fabrication and signage in the construction of the Cooran Hill Trail
• City of Joondalup - $40,000 towards professional fees for the development and production of a City of Joondalup Trails Master Plan
• City of Albany - $27,754 towards project costs for upgrading the existing Norman's Inlet Walk Trail
• Shire of Augusta Margaret River - $108,000 towards the Busselton to Flinders Bay Rail Trail Development Plan
• West Midlands Natural Resource Group Inc. - $25,900 towards the Green Head Three Bays Walkway Construction.
