$3 billion Gold Coast Casino Resort to integrate with Sea World

$3 billion Gold Coast Casino Resort to integrate with Sea World
September 5, 2016

A $3 billion project for the construction of an integrated resort and casino development on the Gold Coast is reportedly set to be agreed by the Queensland Government before the end of the year with work to begin will begin as early as March 2017.

To be located on a five hectare site on the Gold Coast Broadwater between luxury hotel Palazzo Versace and Sea World, the complex will feature three towers, seven restaurants and the expansion of Sea World with a new waterpark, making it Australia’s biggest theme park.

The Chinese-backed ASF Consortium would partner with casino operator Crown Resorts on the ambitious project, with ASF to build the the residential and office space of the development and the casino to be operated by Crown.

Last year, Crown lost out to the Destination Brisbane Consortium (Star Entertainment Group, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, and Far East Consortium-Australia) to build the Queen’s Wharf casino in Brisbane while ASF had previously proposed the construction of an integrated casino resort and a cruise ship terminal on an artificial island in the Southport Broadwater.

Aimed at wealthy Chinese tourists, the new casino would compete with Jupiters Gold Coast at Broadbeach, which is currently undergoing an $850 million upgrade.

The Queensland government has promised that community will be consulted with when reviewing the project.

The former Queensland Government led by Premier Campbell Newman announced plans to create up to three integrated resort developments in metropolitan and regional Queensland in early 2014.
