read moreWith upgrades to the Wadeye swimming pool having been identified as a key strategic priority in improving social outcomes and the health and wellbeing of the Wadeye community, the Northern Territory Government is partnering with the West Daly Regional Council to overhaul the facility via a $3 million grant.
Northern Terriotory Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler and Member for Daly Dheran Young travelled to the community last week to announce the finalisation of the funding agreement with the West Daly Regional Council and announce next steps.
Council will deliver the project with support from The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics and the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet.
Construction is expected to commence 2023 dry season.
Minister Lawler notes “when Community Cabinet met in the Wadeye in August 2021 it was made very clear by the community how much this facility was needed, and our government made a commitment then to the community of Wadeye.”
West Arnhem Regional Council Mayor, Ralph Narburup adds "we are excited to receive this funding and are thankful for the support of the Northern Territory Government, the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics and the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet.
"The pool will deliver significant benefits to the future of our region and wellbeing of our People.”
