450,000 people share experiences at 2018 Perth Festival

450,000 people share experiences at 2018 Perth Festival
March 14, 2018

The 2018 Perth Festival has wrapped up after an overwhelming popular and critical response to an inspiring program revealing art in a different light.

Celebrating 65 years as Australia’s longest-running and biggest curated multi-arts event, more than 450,000 people shared Festival experiences in the third annual program from Artistic Director Wendy Martin.

With the Lotterywest Films season running into April, the 2018 Perth Festival has already exceeded its $3.6 million box-office target and has been acclaimed for its diversity and excellence.

More than 700 international artists appeared in dozens of sold-out shows, nine Australian exclusives, two world premieres, five Australian season premieres and two commissions among 270 music, theatre, dance, literature, film and visual art events.

The Festival’s impact was felt not only in packed theatres but away from the spotlight, through its extensive Festival Connect program of skills and community development opportunities, the Perth Works series of showcases for local works in development and the Education program, which this year included a Schools Day for thousands of students in the Perth Cultural Centre.

Martin explained “Perth Festival 2018 has been a true democracy, where our audiences have voted with their feet and stood together with the world’s greatest artists in creative unity.

“I love how people have jumped into the Festival experience, sharing our dance floors and stages, walking with artists, writers and traditional custodians across the city.”

During the Fringe World Festival, Sonnenmasse - Intra Harena invited a lucky winner to experience Perth Arena like never before with an exclusive show just for them.

Performed by local musician and artist Leon Ewing, Intra Harena was a massive live sound experience involving crushing waves of bass guitar and production inspired by Perth Arena’s architecture and acoustics.

The Perth Festival will return in 2019 running from 8th February to 3rd March.
