$5 million Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction officially opens

$5 million Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction officially opens
August 18, 2022

The $5 million Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction has officially opened spanning 5,000 square metres and including a four-level spiral tower and interactive play equipment that complement the existing Broadwater Parklands.

The attraction celebrates the qualities of the Broadwater including water and sand-play areas.

The Broadwater play attraction is the centrepiece of the northern parklands and includes:

  • a four-level spiral tower with interactive play equipment such as a glockenspiel, telescopes, suspended nets, rope tunnels and an enclosed slide
  • a water and sand play area with carved sandstone, bronze sea animals, water pumps, mini weirs and water gates
  • an elevated sand table designed as a 'fish and chip shop' that can accommodate wheelchairs
  • play equipment including play panels, swings, slides, trampolines, diggers, steppingstones, a carousel, climbing walls and climbing nets
  • shade sails over the play equipment
  • new shelters with seating and barbecue facilities
  • lush green landscaping and lawn areas for social gatherings and picnics

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate advises “our 2,300 parks are a massive drawcard for locals and visitors and I’m proud to add another incredible space to that growing list.

“With new barbecue facilities, picnic areas and state of the art play equipment – this attraction is just one piece of the puzzle that is supporting the liveability and vision of this city.

“The City's investment in parks and community centres is unparalleled. We have spent more than $120 million in the past two years alone, upgrading and building new play areas and centres including Palm Beach Pirate Park, Pimpama Sports Hub, Country Paradise Parklands (voted Queensland Parks and Leisure award for best playground), Shuster Park, Pizzey Skate Park and Miami Aquatic Centre.’’

An open day event will be held on 20th August at Fisherman’s Lawn from 9am to 2pm. There will be a range of local food trucks as well as free family activities including a bubble play workshop, rock climbing and face painting.

Getting there: There will be a complimentary train shuttle service running this Saturday from the Rockpools to Fisherman’s Lawn. Additional parking can be found at Carey Park Car Park on Marine Parade, Athol Paterson Car Park on Suter Street, Mal Burke Car Park on Hicks Street and Cloyne Road Car Park on Cloyne Road.
