Close to 53,000 fans packed into the redeveloped Adelaide Oval on Saturday night (25th October) to experience the first leg of The Rolling Stones' Australasian tour.

The sold-out show marked the band's promised return to Adelaide after postponing their performance in March this year as the official opening event for the oval.

In addition to the fans inside the stadium many thousands of others gathered outside on the banks of the River Torrens.

The Adelaide show was the biggest they were billed to perform while in Australia and New Zealand and the strong crowd broke the record for the most people at the venue since it was redeveloped.

The ABC reported that extra trams, buses and trains were put on to cope with the masses heading into the city for the concert.

The legendary band's '14 On Fire' Australasian tour will now move on to Perth, before heading to Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney along with performances at Hanging Rock, Victoria and at the Hope Estate in the NSW Hunter Valley.
