read moreAFL Victoria’s V/Line Cup carnival has generated a total of $7million in economic benefit to the Latrobe City region over the last three years, following another successful tournament last month.
Since moving Victoria’s premier junior regional carnival in 2015, the V/Line Cup has generated a further $2.1 million in season 2017 to take the combined economic impact to $7 million.
Held in venues across Moe, Morwell and Traralgon last month, the four-day carnival saw more than 3,300 people flock to the region to see the best regional Under 15 male and Under 16 female talent go head-to-head.
AFL Victoria Chief Executive Steven Reaper said it was pleasing to be able to deliver a program which provides benefits to regional Victoria both on and off the field, explained “AFL Victoria is delighted to see another great economic result to the Latrobe City region this year.
“The support from the Latrobe City Council in hosting the V/Line Cup over the last three years has been influential in creating a $7 million economic impact to the region, which benefits not only Australian football in the area, but the wider community.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Latrobe City Council and V/Line next year when the event returns to the region for the fourth consecutive season.”
Latrobe City Mayor Kellie O’Callaghan said AFL Victoria’s continued commitment to developing Australian Football in regional Victoria has been beneficial for the local community, adding “continuing our partnership with V/Line and AFL Victoria allows us to continue to foster the development opportunities for young regional sports people.
“We also appreciate the opportunity to increase the region’s profile and bring economic benefits to local businesses through greater visitation.”
Since 1946, the V/Line Cup has been an important part of the player talent development pathway, with over 70 players from the event drafted to the AFL and AFL Womens in the last seven years.
Now in its 14th year as the official naming rights partner of the carnival, V/Line Chief Executive James Pinder said the organisation was delighted to support the carnival, which continues to focus on the development of the next generation of AFL stars.
Pinder concluded “it’s great to see the significant impact the V/Line Cup competition has across the wider community.
“At V/Line, we’re all about being involved in the communities we serve and sponsoring the V/Line Cup is just another extension of that.”
The 2018 V/Line Cup is set to return to the Latrobe City region in September next season.
