Alisa Camplin-Warner named as Australia’s deputy chef de mission for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics
March 8, 2021

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has announced Alisa Camplin-Warner, the nation’s first female Winter Olympic Games gold medallist, as Deputy Chef de Mission for the Australian team at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Camplin-Warner, who won her Olympic Gold medal at the Salt Lake City 2002 Winer Games, was previously Performance Manager for the Australian Team at the PyeongChang Winter Games in 2018 and before that Chef de Mission for the Australian Team at the Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympic Games.

She has also been on the Board for the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA) for more than 15 years as well as previously holding numerous leadership roles in sport, including Deputy Chair Australian Sports Commission, Chair of the Australian Sports Foundation and Director of the Collingwood Football Club.

Chef de Mission of the Australian Team for the Beijing Winter Games Geoff Lipshut says Alisa Camplin-Warner brings great leadership and knowledge to the Team, commenting “I look forward to working closely with Alisa over the months ahead in the lead-up, and then on the ground in February next year.

“Alisa’s background as an Olympic champion, then in corporate life makes her the ideal fit for the team.

“She is one of our sporting greats and I am really pleased that the 2022 team athletes and their coaches will have an opportunity to benefit from her involvement.”

Welcoming her appointment, Camplin-Warner advised “I care deeply about every one of our athletes’ Olympic journeys.”

“They have all made sacrifices and invested their lives to represent their country and discover their ultimate potential.

“Meeting each of them, where they are at, and providing what they need to be as mentally, physically and emotionally ready for their moment is incredibly important to me.

“It’s an absolute honour to be named as Deputy Chef de Mission for Beijing 2022, you can never take these very special appointments for granted.

“Beijing 2022 will bring forward different opportunities for our team, and after living in Hong Kong for the last few years, I have a great sense of the cultural and environmental landscape we will be operating in.

“I can’t wait to help our athletes, coaches and officials with preparations to maximise our performances at the games.”
