Aquatic, fitness and sport employment and salary trends under the microscope

Aquatic, fitness and sport employment and salary trends under the microscope
August 17, 2017

Professionals working in aquatic, fitness, recreation, sport and related employment in Australia and New Zealand are being called upon to participate in a national survey which opens this week, mapping employment and salary trends for the sector.

The 2017 Sportspeople Workplace Survey is managed by recruitment agency and job board operator Sportspeople, in conjunction with La Trobe University's Centre for Sport and Social Impact, with the University looking at "understanding the gender wage gap in the sport industry".

With working hours, age, gender, education and remuneration practices among the topics explored in previous surveys, Sportspeople’s General Manager, Angelique Everett anticipates that the 2017 Sportspeople Workplace Survey will continue to map changes to employment practices from the data collected in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Everett explains “rhis year will be our most comprehensive survey yet, combining the research questions for La Trobe University's Centre for Sport and Social Impact study, and utilising their expertise in compiling and publishing the results.

“We have also tailored the survey to cater for the numerous volunteers in the sector, allowing us to publish additional data mapping this valuable industry resource.

“In constructing the Survey questions we have also consulted with a number of external agencies to ensure we are collecting additional data that can be put to good use.

“For example, the level of education of respondents was considered of particular interest to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. Checking to see if respondents are actually working in the field in which they have studied, for example, has also been included in the Survey.”

“The support of our Survey Partners is acknowledged and greatly appreciated. Each of these organisations has made a commitment to promote the 2017 Sportspeople Workplace Survey to their constituents and membership, an integral part of the success of the data collection process. We plan to continue to conduct the Sportspeople Workplace Survey regularly as the benchmark measure of employment and salary trends for the sport, fitness and aquatic sectors.”

The Survey is supported by key industry partners including:

• AUSTSWIM
• Australian Leisure Facilities Association
Australasian Leisure Management
• QSport
• Sport NSW
• SportSA
• Vicsport
• WA Sports Federation
