People working in aquatic, fitness, recreation and sport jobs in Australia and New Zealand are being called upon to participate in a national survey which opens this week, mapping employment and salary trends for the sector.

The 2013 Sportspeople Workplace Survey is managed by job board operator and recruitment agency Sportspeople and is supported by a number of key industry partners including:

• Australian Womensport & Recreation Association
• Fitness Australia
• Institute of Sport Management
• NSW Sports Federation
• QSport
• Service Skills Australia
• SportSA
• Vicsport
• WA Sports Federation

Working hours, age, gender, education and remuneration practices were just some of the hot spots for the industry in the previous surveys.

According to Sportspeople Operations Manager, Angelique Lele the 2013 Sportspeople Workplace Survey will continue to map changes to employment practices from the data collected in 2009 and 2011.

Lele explains "this year will be our most comprehensive survey yet, combining with the more specific questions from the Sportspeople Salary Survey to provide up to date remuneration levels and trends for specific positions in the industry.

"We have also tailored the survey to cater for the numerous volunteers in the sector, allowing us to publish additional data mapping this valuable industry resource.

"In constructing the Survey questions we have also consulted with a number of external agencies to ensure we are collecting additional data that can be put to good use.

"For example, the level of education of respondents was considered of particular interest to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.

"Checking to see if respondents are actually working in the field in which they have studied, for example, has also been included in the Survey.

"The support of our survey partner Australasian Leisure Management is acknowledged and greatly appreciated.

"Australasian Leisure Management has made a commitment to promote the 2013 Sportspeople Workplace Survey to their constituents and readership, an integral part of the success of the data collection process.

"We plan to continue to conduct the Sportspeople Workplace Survey regularly as the benchmark measure of employment and salary trends for the sport, fitness and aquatic sectors."
