read moreAquatics and Recreation Victoria (ARV) has announced a partnership with the Australian Swimming Teachers and Coaches Association (ASCTA) to deliver the range of Swim Australia™ courses to the Victorian market.
Developing and maintaining a healthy network of swim teachers for Victoria’s aquatics and recreation industry was one of founding principles upon which ARV was founded, and it remains a strategic imperative - with ARV having a long history of delivering swim teaching courses in Victoria.
The relationship with ASCTA will see this continue into the future.
Commenting on the partnership, ASCTA General Manager David Speechley stated "we are delighted to be partnering with ARV help to roll out Swim Australia ™ courses into the Victorian market.
"ARV is a highly respected industry peak body, and this is a great opportunity to grow Victoria’s pool of qualified swim teachers."
Demand for the courses, in particular, the Swim Australia ™ Teacher (SAT) course, is expected to be strong, with a course delivery structure that’s flexible and keenly priced.
According to ARV Chief Executive Anthony McIntosh "the SAT course, at $250, is really attractive, when compared with other courses offering the same qualification, for $370 or more.
"Further, the combination of online learning and one day of practical activities allows the student to do a lot of the preparation and assessment work in their own time, rather than taking up the whole weekend."
The Swim Australia ™ courses offer many developmental pathways, from entry level teaching all the way up to elite competitive swim coaching.
They have been developed with expertise from Swimming Australia Limited and are currently conducted all over the world. All ASCTA’s courses are nationally and internationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, and International Federation of Swim Teachers Associations respectively.
Presenters – an integral part of any swim teacher training program - are invited to become involved. Those qualified in other courses can become Swim Australia ™ presenters via a simple ‘recognition of current competencies’ process for zero cost while swim teachers too can gain Swim Australia ™ accreditation with a similar process for a modest fee.
ARV looks forward to strengthening its association with Victoria’s 279 aquatic leisure facilities through its partnership with ASCTA, and it remains committed to developing an available pool of swim teaching skills at local level across Victoria.
ARV Chairman Andrew Hocking concludes “ARV has a long history in encouraging best practice in the aquatics industry and competition fosters improved quality and relevance. “The swim teacher training market in Victoria has been dominated by one player for a long time.
“Victorians will, for the first time ever, have the power to exercise their choice for swim teacher training.
“ARV is pleased to be at the forefront of this innovation to offer high quality, affordable swim teacher training program.”
The formal launch event for the program will be at the ARV Industry Christmas Party on 27th November, 2014.
