Speaking at a celebration attended by local dignitaries, City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield said the Centre has been a great success since its opening last year with over 6,000 members now enjoying the state-of-the-art fitness centre, pools, crèche and cafe.
Mayor Butterfield stated “it was exciting to celebrate the first birthday with special guests, fellow councillors, centre members and staff. It’s so nice to see everyone enjoying the picnic areas, splashing in the pools, or working up a sweat in the health club.
“It’s not hard to see why AFAC was recognised by Parks and Leisure Australia as the 2019 WA Community Facility of the Year.”
AFAC advise that the community’s response to the Centre in its first year of operations has been incredible, with membership almost three times higher than projected. Swim School enrolments have also surpassed projections. It is expected that within the next three months the centre will achieve a total visitation of 850,000 since opening.
AFAC are also impressed with the fitness class attendance - of the 5,570 group fitness classes delivered - there have been 91,000 participants.
The birthdays continue in 2020 as further facilities are celebrated across the City of Armadale, with the Champion Centre marking 10 years of operation, along with noteworthy anniversaries for all three of the City’s libraries - Kelmscott 60 years; Armadale 10 years in the Armadale Central Shopping Centre; and the recently refurbished Seville Grove Library 30 years.
AFAC is located 28 kilometres east of the Perth CBD.
