Singapore's Gardens by the Bay has been selected as one of 13 recipients of the 2014 Thea Awards, alongside other Asian attractions including The Mind Museum in The Philippines, Hong Kong Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan.

Presented annually by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and sponsored by AECOM, 2014 marks the 20th year in which the international Thea Awards will be presented. The Awards honour creative excellence in theme parks, museums, heritage centers, botanical gardens, technological innovation, performance spectacle and events.

Asian representatives among the 13 Award recipients are:

Mystic Manor, Hong Kong Disneyland recognised for "technical breakthroughs" and for the ride creators not losing their rigorous focus on the beautifully told story.

The Song of an Angel, Universal Studios Japan recognised for being "exceptional in the way mapping technology is integrated into fully-staged performance and emotional storytelling".

The Mind Museum, Taguig City, Philippines - the Philippines' first world-class science museum.

Gardens by the Bay, Singapore - "a compelling, iconic and regionally unique experience on an audacious scale".

Delighted by the Gardens by the Bay's success, Gardens by the Bay Chief Executive Dr Kiat W. Tan explained "Gardens by the Bay has been fortunate in receiving a number of local and international awards including World Building of the Year 2012, and more recently, the Breakthrough Contribution to Tourism award and President's Design Award 2013 in Singapore, as well as the RIBA Lubetkin Prize in the United Kingdom for best new international building of 2013.

"While most of the awards we have garnered so far relate to design, architecture and engineering, the Thea Award honours creative excellence in the attractions and entertainment arena. It is a wonderful recognition of the team's hard work, since opening in June 2012, in making every visit to the Gardens a delightful experience for our visitors.

"This award is especially befitting as we kick off 2014 with a new theme for the years series of floral displays 'Gardens by the Bay Goes around the World'. After all, our aspiration has been to bring a world of plants to Singapore, and in doing so, present Singapore to the world.

"This year will be an exciting one with the opening of the Far East Organization Children's Garden and the Sun Pavilion, as well as the co-organising of the Singapore Garden Festival with the National Parks Board for the first time at Gardens by the Bay."

To be presented at a gala event on 5th April at the Disneyland resort, Anaheim, California, USA, TEA President Christine Kerr explains "the Awards showcase the best of an industry that is now thoroughly international.

"At 1,000 members strong, TEA and the industry it serves have expanded well beyond the Americas to Asia, Europe and the Middle East."

The TEA is an international non-profit alliance representing roughly 8,000 creative specialists, from architects to designers, technical specialists to master planners, scenic fabricators to artists, and builders to feasibility analysts working 40 different countries. TEA presents the annual Thea Awards and the TEA Summit and hosts the annual SATE Conference (Storytelling, Architecture, Technology, Experience).

TEA also produces a variety of print and electronic publications, including the TEA/AECOM Theme Index, TEA Annual Directory and Thea Awards Program magazine.
