Athletics Australia parts with Chief Executive Dallas O’Brien

Athletics Australia (AA) has announced that Chief Executive Dallas O'Brien has resigned from his position.

The resignation of O'Brien, who took on the role in early 2010, follows last month's announcement that head coach Eric Hollingsworth had stepped down from his position and an independent review of track and field in Australia would be held.

In a statement, O'Brien explained "I have truly enjoyed my time at Athletics Australia, however the time is right for me to move on to new challenges."

AA President David Grace says O'Brien had served track and field well during his time in the role, stating "during this time he has made a significant contribution, particularly in a wide range of projects including building relationships with Federal and state governments, a whole of sport digital project and managing the lengthy process of the proposed merger with Little Athletics Australia."

O'Brien and AA had come under heavy criticism following public comments Hollingsworth made about Olympic champion Sally Pearson during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in August.

Hollingsworth claimed Pearson had set a poor example to younger athletes by not appearing at a team camp in England in the build-up to the Games.

He subsequently had his Commonwealth Games accreditation revoked and he was ordered by team officials to leave Glasgow.
