19 years after opening her first fitness location, the achievements of Mel Tempest, owner of the Ballarat Body & Soul Genesis 24/7 gym and the creator of the Gym Owners Fitness Business Podcast and Womens Leaders Fitness Business Podcast, have been recognised with her induction into AUSactive’s industry ‘Roll of Honour’.

Presented tonight at the AUSactive National Awards, Tempest was acknowledged with the Australian fitness industry’s highest award acclamation.

Acknowledging her recognition by the industry and her journey in fitness, Tempest stated "I left school at 14 to sell hot chips and dim sims; my science teacher Mrs Bashski told me I would be a bum, and I gave my French teacher a nervous twitch, and here I am.

“Never underestimate the power you have to change people's lives, each day, somebody wakes up and aspires to be like you; we work in an industry that inspires people to be the best they can be, and we create change.

“Thanking the AUSactive board for acknowledging what I do, Billie Cox, Barrie Elvish, and Jane for their tremendous words and huge support. And yes, Greg Oliver, I still want to be like you when I grow up.

“Thanks to our incredible sponsors, without them, we wouldn't have events that bring us together as a collaborative community.”

The two other inductees in the AUSactive Roll of Honour, Don Hartley and John Holsinger, both sadly deceased earlier this year, were also acknowledged at the Awards.

The Awards “recognise individuals who have worked throughout their careers to deliver great benefits to the wider fitness community, and to advance the standing of our industry.”
