Australia Zoo marks Steve Irwin Day

Australia Zoo marks Steve Irwin Day
November 18, 2016

Australia Zoo and the Irwin family have this week staged their annual Steve Irwin Day celebration/commemoration – encouraging Zoo guests and Steve Irwin fans around the world to wear khaki clothing.

An Australia Zoo statement advised that the famed Crocodile Hunter “lived in his khakis and ventured around the world with his family on a mission to teach people about wildlife and wild places.

“Steve helped the world fall in love with the earth’s natural treasures and inspired everyone to want to make a positive difference in protecting them.”

Focussed on Australia Zoo, Steve Irwin Day is held on 15th November each year to remember Irwin, who died while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in 2006.

The day sees the Zoo hosts activities to fundraise for future wildlife conservation work with all proceeds from Steve Irwin Day going towards continuing Irwin’s legacy and contributing to Wildlife Warriors’ conservation programs which he was so passionate about.

Irwin’s wife Terri said the day was about "remembering his message and the incredible man he was".

She told the Sunshine Coast Daily “he touched the lives of so many people and his important message of conservation is something everyone can be passionate about.”

Irwin died on 4th September 2006. He is survived by his wife Terri, daughter Bindi and son Robert.
