read moreThe final design of the Australian Museum's new entry and permanent gallery space has been unveiled.
With construction now underway, the $2.5 million development of a new entrance and expanded gallery space at the Sydney landmark is expected to lead to the attraction of more local and international visitors.
The transformation will incorporate contemporary materials with the original heritage buildings, and will feature a contemporary ‘floating glass’ entry hall on the front of the Museum’s William Street entrance. In addition to the entry there will be a new Wild Planet gallery and a new rooftop café, which will take advantage of the spectacular skyline view of Sydney.
The Museum, Australia’s first when it was established in 1857, has ambitious plans to attract more people through greater accessibility, new galleries, showcase more its collections and accommodating international exhibitions.
Introducing the new design, NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant stated “this upgrade will allow the Australian Museum to expand its permanent gallery areas with additional exhibition space to showcase its impressive collection.”
Australian Museum Chief Executive Kim McKay said it was an exciting time for the Museum, stating “the Australian Museum is committed to sustainability and the new entrance has been designed with minimal energy impact.”
The Australian Museum has also appointed 303Lowe Sydney as its new agency partner to work on the development of brand strategy and advertising campaigns.
