read moreThe Australian National Maritime Museum has unveiled its new waterfront venue, The Conference Centre, making the Museum’s western annex available for hire for the first time.
Making the most of its location on Sydney’s Darling Harbour, the Centre offer a versatile series of spaces with uninterrupted harbour views to cater to the increasing demand of Sydney’s event and conference organisers.
Developed as part of a recent upgrade and refurbishment at the Museum, the Centre has its own entrance, 13 metre high windows and an outdoor entertaining terrace that looks over Pyrmont Bay toward Barangaroo.
The main conference space has a capacity for up to 120 delegates for day conferences or up to 200 guests for cocktail functions, and includes an audio-visual suite and servery for specially-designed menus by caterer Laissez-faire. Three separate break-out areas and convenient access to the waterfront terrace provides the ideal flexibility for conferences, day-long meetings and evening events as well as corporate off-site programs.
In addition, a mezzanine level houses the Wal Gentle Boardroom. In keeping with the Museum’s maritime heritage mission, this stunning, solid timber boardroom is inspired by the interiors of British clipper Cutty Sark and provides a contrast to the contemporary design of the rest of the venue.
Commenting on the opening, Museum Director Kevin Sumption explains “we are delighted to be able to offer a previously private wing as a venue for commercial hire and cater to increasing demand for event spaces in this vibrant and growing Darling Habour location.
“The Conference Centre emphasises the uniqueness of our venues spaces. We are thrilled to be able to host business events combined with visits to our galleries or evening cocktails on the helipad of an ex-naval destroyer, the HMAS Vampire. It allows us to share Australia’s maritime history and heritage in a dynamic way.”
The Conference Centre complements the Australian National Maritime Museum’s existing event spaces, creating a one-of-a-kind venue precinct in one of Sydney’s most sought-after locations.
The Museum now has the ability to host up to 3,000 people at any one time across its 12 unique and adaptable spaces.
