Australian Olympic Committee launches swimming inquiry

Australian Olympic Committee launches swimming inquiry
March 13, 2013

Leading Sydney barrister Bret Walker SC has begun the Australian Olympic Committee's (AOC) investigation into drug use within the Australian swimming team during the London 2012 Olympics.

James Magnussen and four other members of Australia's 4x100 metres freestyle relay team confessed to taking the sedative Stilnox as part of a 'bonding session' at a pre-Olympic camp.

The AOC says Walker will lead the investigation into the drug incident and other reported misbehaviour.

Walker represented the AOC in its case against Nick D'Arcy in 2008 when the swimmer was banned from competing in the Beijing Olympic Games for assaulting team mate Simon Cowley.
