read moreThe Australian Tourism Exchange, the nation’s largest annual travel and tourism business-to-business event, has wrapped up after four successful days in Adelaide.
Organised by Tourism Australia in partnership with the South Australian Tourism Commission, ATE18 has been based at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 15th to 19th April, bringing together Australian tourism businesses and tourism wholesalers and retailers from around the world through a combination of scheduled business appointments and networking events.
The event also provided international travel buyers with the opportunity to experience Australia’s tourism offering first-hand through pre and post event familiarisations.
Attended by around 1,500 Australian seller delegates from approximately 550 companies, 700 key buyer delegates from over 30 countries, and over 80 international and Australian media representatives, ATE18 is already being credited with boosting Adelaide's visitor economy.
Speaking about the event, Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan advised “the economic impact of ATE is significant and will directly help to boost Australia’s inbound tourism sector.
“During the week of the event, Adelaide and South Australia can expect an immediate $10 million boost to the local economy.
“Longer term, the relationships and business negotiated at ATE help to secure future travel to Australia, assisting the Australian tourism industry to reach its Tourism 2020 goal of growing overnight expenditure to more than $115 billion annually by the end of the decade.”
The close of ATE18 also saw the announcement that Perth will hold the event in 2019, at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 8th to 12th April 2019
The deal was secured by the Western Australian Government through Tourism Western Australia.
Looking forward to 2019, Western Australian Tourism Minister Paul Papalia commented “we’ve seen Perth, Australia’s sunniest capital city, transform into one of the nation’s most interesting destinations with a vibrant city life surrounded by nature, and ATE19 will be our time to really shine for an international audience.
“We want Perth to be one of the most desirable leisure and business event destinations in the world, and ATE19 gives us an extraordinary opportunity to position ourselves as Australia’s western gateway.”
