Australia’s Golden Outback promotes 21 Epic Road Trips across Western Australia

Australia’s Golden Outback promotes 21 Epic Road Trips across Western Australia
June 21, 2020

Western Australia’s Golden Outback is currently being promoted by highlighting the opportunities to explore the State’s vast and diverse region via 21 epic road trips.

The Gold Region Tourism Organisation Inc (GRTO) trading as Australia's Golden Outback was established in early 2004 following the development of the “New Concept for State Tourism” by the Western Australian Tourism Commission.

Western Australia’s Golden Outback, an area covering 54% of the State, stretches from the rugged red earth of Mt Augustus in the Gascoyne-Murchison region - the world’s largest monolith twice the size of Uluru, to the sweeping snow-white beaches of Esperance, Fitzgerald Coast and the South Coast with captivating scenery that bursts with colour during wildflower season in spring.

At the very heart of Western Australia’s Golden Outback lies the modern mining hub of Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields, offering fascinating insights into the history and heritage of the wild gold rush days. To the west in the Wheatbelt, visitors can be rewarded with views of picturesque rolling farmland dotted with rural townships and a giant public art trail of colourful silos, and the famous Wave Rock.

Launching the Road Trip Country campaign, Australia’s Golden Outback Chief Executive, Marcus Falconer believes that Coronavirus has completely changed our travel habits and notes “the road trip has never been more popular and with so many diverse roads trips for travellers to choose from, the Golden Outback really is Road Trip Country.

“There are 21 different itineraries from one-hour road trips to 15-day adventures and everything in between. It’s an exciting prospect to jump in the car with family or friends to explore somewhere new - there’s a fantastic feeling of freedom that you only get on an epic road trip.

“Not only does it support our tourism businesses, but a road trip through WA's Golden Outback is a really awesome holiday – there are things you’ll experience that you can’t experience anywhere else in the world.

“There’s the world’s largest open air gallery featuring 51 sculptures by Anthony Gormley on the salt flats of Lake Ballard, the striking bubble gum pink coloured Lake Hillier near Esperance, the history and heritage of the 1800s gold rush era from Meekathara to Norseman and of course, simply the untouched rugged beauty of the vast outback.”

Falconer said that tourism operators are looking forward to welcoming holiday-makers from WA as well as from interstate once the state border reopens.

The 21 Epic Road Trips consist of:

1. Road to the Rock
2. Canning Stock Route
3. Kingsford Smith Mail Run
4. Wool Wagon Pathway
5. Miners Pathway
