Baldivis Indoor Sports Complex offerings enhance community wellbeing
City of Rockingham’s Baldivis Indoor Sports Complex is one of the newest leisure facilities in Perth’s south-metropolitan area, with community members enjoying and benefitting from the diverse array of programs and facilities on offer.
The Baldivis Indoor Sports Complex (BISC) was built by the City of Rockingham as part of the wider Baldivis Sports Complex project and has four indoor courts that cater to basketball, netball, badminton, volleyball, indoor soccer and floorball. It also features multipurpose rooms.
One of the first initiatives delivered at the BISC is ‘Men Rockin Goals Together’, a health program co-designed by the City and community members featuring an indoor soccer competition focused on weight loss, nutrition and peer support.
‘Men Rockin Goals Together’ participant Daniel Garnham said the program provided at the BISC had been a boost for his mental health and shared “I've been playing for five weeks now and have met lots of likeminded lads who head down each week for a run around - I look forward to the game each week and the exercise and competitive energy has been great for my mental health.”
Fellow participant Joe Psaila added “couldn’t recommend it enough” while Trevor Fettis said the BISC was a great facility to play sport in a relaxed environment.
The City also provides a popular lifestyle program at the BISC designed to keep you moving and it includes weekly functional movement, yoga, tai-chi and Zumba classes as well as Mums and Tots Interactive Yoga play sessions.
Functional movement instructor Yasmin Rasool encouraged community members to get involved. “Movement is an opportunity, not an inconvenience – come along and give it a go!” she said.
Mayor Deb Hamblin said the BISC was a facility that offered sporting and leisure opportunities for people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Mayor Hamblin notes “In building the BISC the City has strived to create a facility that can provide a wealth of physical and social opportunities for generations to come.
“The City is always looking at ways to enhance what’s on offer at the BISC. For the Term 3 Program we are currently seeking expressions of interest for a new Walking Netball program which will start in mid-July and run for 10 weeks. Boxing and Pilates classes, as well as regular mother’s group (baby play) sessions are also on the horizon, so make sure you take advantage of the opportunities to get involved.”
Visitors can also enjoy a variety of food and drink options at the BISC Café. For more information on the facility, café and programs available visit rockingham.wa.gov.au/bisc
