read moreTauranga’s Baycourt Community & Arts Centre is warning patrons buying online tickets for the performing arts facility to check they are paying through authorised sites.
Aware that tickets for some of Baycourt’s events are being sold at inflated prices on overseas websites, Baycourt Manager Megan Peacock-Coyle has released a statement in which she advises “these companies buy the tickets legally then on-sell them at higher prices with huge booking fees.
“(As a result) customers will end up paying far too much, and in the event of a cancellation, Ticketek will not refund them.”
Peacock-Coyle highlighted that Ticketek is the only company authorised to sell tickets online for Baycourt, pointing out that tickets for two forthcoming events, Grease and Celtic Illusion, are currently being sold on the Viagogo website at inflated prices.
Peacock-Coyle said the Baycourt website directed all online transactions to the Ticketek website, adding “if you’re booking tickets for a Baycourt show over the internet please ensure you’re paying via Ticketek."
She sees that the problem is not unique to Baycourt, concluding “all ticketing companies are aware that this happens to popular events.
“In a way it further validates the calibre of the shows that we are bringing to Baycourt but we don’t want anyone to be cheated by this.
“Ticketek is the only authorised online seller for Baycourt shows.”
