Bill Clinton opens Technogym global wellness village

Bill Clinton opens Technogym global wellness village
October 7, 2012

Former US President Bill Clinton and Giorgio Napolitano, the President of Italy, have presided over the opening Technogym's new global headquarters in Cessena, Italy.

The expansive 'Wellness Village', which houses the company's factory, offices, and workout and spa facilities, is staffed by 1,000 of Technogym's 2,200 worldwide employees.

The campus is a cultural centre, a laboratory for innovation and a production centre where staff, customers, suppliers and guests from across the globe can experience and enjoy a full-immersion wellness experience. The project combines the production sites and company headquarters with a wellness centre including an avant-garde gym, conference centre, library and restaurant serving zero-mileage food.

The campus covers 60,000 metre2 of covered spaces across a 150,000 metre2 site, designed by Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel and Partners, one of Italy's most internationally renowned architecture studios, and inspired by the concepts of eco-sustainability and bio-architecture, and by the principles of health and wellness on the workplace.

The project is fully integrated into a plan to create Europe's first wellness district, a laboratory of experiences to raise the quality of life and to leverage wellness an opportunity for economic development in the Romagna area promoted by Technogym President and Founder Nerio Alessandri.

Alessandri explains "after 25 years of commitment on the development of Technogym and the spread of the Wellness philosophy all over the world, our dream continues. The Technogym Village represents the new starting point for the future of Technogym.

"Together with my brother Pierluigi and the whole Technogym team, we are proud to know that Bill Clinton and Giorgio Napolitano have honoured our company with their presence at the village opening."

The opening also marked the staging of the 20th Technogym Wellness Congress with the title: 'Let's Move for a better world', where the topic of wellness as a social opportunity to plan a sustainable socio-economic development starting from people's health was presented.

Lecturers at the Congress included renowned professionals, institutions, media, opinion leaders, sports champions and entrepreneurs including a panel of global leaders: the Italian Ministers Passera (Economic Development) and Balduzzi (Health); the Executive Director of the World Food Programme;

Ertharin Cousin, the Editor in Chief of the technology and innovation magazine Wired, David Rowan; and the and the President of the Italian National Institute of Statistics Enrico Giovannini.

The closing speech was presented by Bill Clinton, whose William J. Clinton Foundation is dedicated to the fight against childhood obesity.
