The Blue Mountains singers, all from existing local choirs, have been working hard and learning opera choruses with Opera Australia conductor, Simon Kenway prior to their performance at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday 18th August.
Over the last year Blue Mountain City Council's Cultural Development Program has focused on partnerships and programs that provide skills development and showcase opportunities for the City's large number of talented artists - such as the Community Choir Project with Opera Australia.
The Community Choirs program has proved so popular that in its first year over 400 singers from across Western Sydney came together for the free concert.
Opera Australia Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini explains "the first Opera Australia Community Choirs project is a celebration of the joy of singing, of coming together and making music as a community."
It is Terracini's vision to get Opera Australia to share opera experiences with as many people as possible. This vision has seen Opera Australia partner with seven Western Sydney community organisations for the first time in its history.
Opera Australia's Community Partnerships & Education Manager, Frances Gordon adds "this project is about singing, about opera, about people coming together, and having the most fabulous time."
