Bob Carr among new appointments to the Australian Heritage Council
July 11, 2024

The Australian Government has announced the appointment of five members to the Australian Heritage Council.

The appointments include:

  • a new chair, Bob Carr, former NSW Premier
  • historic heritage experts Kristal Buckley and Professor Richard Mackay
  • indigenous heritage experts Leah Cameron and Jamie Lowe will return for a second term.

The Australian Heritage Council is the main adviser to the Australian Government on heritage matters and assessing nominations for the National and Commonwealth Heritage Lists. It has also provided input on legislative reforms under the Nature Positive Plan.

The appointments follow the departure of the Ted Baillieu who served as chair for three years, as well as historic heritage experts Professor Liz Vines and Professor Helen Lochhead.
