read moreTourism and Events Queensland has launched a major advertising campaign to promote the Bundaberg North Burnett and the Southern Great Barrier Reef region ahead of the local turtle hatching season.
Explaining the increased investment in promoting the State's nature-based tourism assets, Queensland Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey stated “the 2014 Turtle Campaign will continue to drive visitation to what is a signature Australian experience that shouldn’t be missed.
“The investment will continue to increase bookings to the Mon Repos turtle experience and see the region’s small businesses benefit from the tourist dollar.”
Minister Stuckey also highlighted that turtle season visitors would be among the first to access new tourist information touchscreens and a smartphone app, adding “the touch screen systems will be strategically positioned at locations from Eidsvold to Bargara.
“Visitors can discover information about the region and the exciting visitor experiences on offer.
“The screens will be complemented by a visitor app which will give tourism operators and small businesses access to tourists and potential customers.
“These initiatives have been put in place to encourage visitors to stay longer and experience more as we work towards our state-wide goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.”
Queensland National Parks Minister Steve Dickson added that the Bundaberg turtle experience continued to be a major drawcard for the region.
Minister Dickson stated “nesting and hatching turtles are one of the most spectacular wildlife spectacles in Australia, with more than 28,000 people enjoying this unique Queensland experience at Mon Repos last season.”
The turtle hatching season officially begins on 10th November 2014.
