read moreThe Women's Tennis Association (WTA) year-end BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Singapore has been a major success for California Sports Surfaces (CSS) with the tournament being played on a DecoTurf portable court.
Marking the first time in the event's 44-year history that an Asian city has hosted the prestigious tournament, the event was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium (SIS) in the heart of the new Singapore Sports Hub from 17th to 26th October.
The CSS portable court was an exclusive creation for the Championship and will now be made available for rent or purchase to other venues and installers. The cushioned, wooden surface features a seamless locking base and can be finished with any of CSS’s 3 brands; DecoTurf, Plexipave, or Rebound Ace.
The system can fit in a single container for shipping and storing and can be installed in about three hours making it ideal for exhibition matches and Davis and Fed Cup ties.
Working together with event promoter World Sport Group (WSG), CSS’ Australian office developed a tailored plan to transform the SIS into the Centre Court for the tournament, which saw eight of the world’s best women’s singles players and doubles teams compete for the coveted Billie Jean King trophy and Martina Navratilova Doubles trophy respectively.
Additionally, CSS laid out the surface for the three practice courts, located at the nearby OCBC Arena within the Singapore Sports Hub.
Commenting on the project CSS Australia Manager, Events, Partnerships & Strategy Steven Lock states “California Sports Surfaces has been proud to partner with the WTA and WSG for the year-end finals in its new Singapore home.
“We see it as another great endorsement of our company’s products and capability to deliver world-class playing surfaces globally.”
Sarah Clements, Director of Operations for WTA Finals, World Sport Group, added “we are delighted to have partnered with California Sports Surfaces, a brand synonymous with superior court surfaces in the sport of tennis.
“The cushioned tennis courts helped the WTA players deliver their best performance, providing our tennis fans with a truly incredible experience.”
California Sports Surfaces brands are regularly chosen for use at the world’s most prestigious events with Plexipave, DecoTurf and Rebound Ace the most widely recognised court surfaces in tennis.
Affirming this popularity, WTA Finals Tournament Director Melissa Pine concluded “having been a former tennis player myself, I can testify to the importance of having a high-quality court surface to practice and play on.
“We are very pleased to have partnered with California Sports Surfaces for the crown jewel WTA Finals event to create the most compelling tennis experience possible for players and spectators alike, given their depth of experience in delivering great results for other world-class events.”
