Casey Stadium sweeps Cricket Victoria Indoor Awards

Casey Stadium sweeps Cricket Victoria Indoor Awards
April 11, 2023

Casey Stadium, the leading-edge sport and recreation facility owned by the City of Casey and managed by YMCA Victoria, has been named the Indoor Facility of the Year 2022/23 at the Cricket Victoria Awards.

Recognised for its outstanding contribution to the sport and its diverse community, Casey Stadium has seen a 100% increase in adult cricket teams and a 61% increase in children's program participants over the past year - testament to the facility's commitment to providing active participation in a wide-reaching mix of social and organised recreational programs.

Casey Stadium has also connected with the community by hosting three major events: the Indoor Cricket World Cup, Indoor Cricket Nationals, and the Indoor Cricket Masters.

The Indoor Cricket World Cup, held from 8th to 15th October last year, showcased the state-of-the-art facility and the City of Casey to the world, with athletes from eight countries competing in the men's and women's open and under-22 competitions. Over 10,000 spectators watched the tournament live at Casey Stadium and was broadcast to the world via KayoSports and YouTube.

In addition to hosting major events, Casey Stadium has developed youth cricket clinics for school-aged children and established 'Come Try' Cricket sessions for women and girls of all ages, in partnership with Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia.

Casey Stadium has also expanded to four teams in the Victoria and Super League - Indoor Sports Victoria, and built strong connections with local cricket clubs who use the training lanes and pitches all year.

Welcoming the recognition, Casey Stadium Centre Manager, Josh Sadler stated "we are thrilled to receive this recognition from Cricket Victoria. We are committed to promoting active participation in cricket and providing a facility that caters to the diverse needs of our community.”

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM, added “as one of Casey’s most popular sporting venues, Council is honoured to see Casey Stadium recognised for its state of the art facilities - which continues to provide our growing community with the opportunity to get involved in the sports that they value and enjoy.”
