read moreCbus Super Stadium spectators at tonight’s Queensland Champions Cup will be the first to experience a new jumbo-sized LED screen which at 175 metre square, is almost three times the size of the original Gold Coast stadium screen.
The Queensland Champions Cup is a three match series, played across the State from 14th-20th July and is the revival of a tournament that was launched in 2020 but postponed because of COVID.
English Premier League Football Clubs, Aston Villa F.C and Leeds United F.C will contest the very first Queensland Champions Cup alongside A-League club, Brisbane Roar F.C.
The tournament kick-offs on the Gold Coast tonight (Thursday 14th July) when the Brisbane Roar F.C. take on the might of Leeds United.
The new screen will deliver a larger than life, high-definition experience for Cbus Super Stadium’s action replays of the Leeds United and Brisbane Roar match.
Queensland Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe advised “Cbus Super Stadium has installed the first of two new big screens two weeks early for the three-game Queensland Champions Cup, starting tonight on the Gold Coast.
“Investing in the new screen infrastructure gives sporting codes and event promoters more big opportunities to inspire spectators.”
Cbus Super Stadium’s new 175 metre square screen in the north-eastern corner will consume less energy than the ageing 60 metre square model it replaces.
A second 120 metre square screen in Cbus Super Stadium’s south west will be installed during October to reduce event disruption.
Cbus Super Stadium Manager Kristian Blundell said the installation of such a large piece of technology required careful planning, commenting "it’s absolutely huge, in fact we’re encouraging fans on social media to guess how many panels are in the screen, for the chance to win four tickets to an upcoming match.
“(Installation) was quite the undertaking, we needed a 16-ton crane and a 14-ton mini crane to lift parts in safely, but we went from steel structure to screen within about three days.”
The old screens and their steel framing will be recycled.
