The City of Fremantle has welcomed a $3.75 investment by the Australian Government in the Hilton Park precinct project. The funding will go towards stage one of renewal works in the northern part of the Hilton Park precinct, which represents about a third of the 19-hectare site in Beaconsfield.

In August this year, the City submitted a grant application for that amount to the Thriving Suburbs Program.

The Australian Government's Thriving Suburbs Program was established to deliver investment in community infrastructure projects - such as sporting and cultural hubs, libraries and parks - that connect communities and promote social cohesion.

The project includes refurbishment of the Brad Hardie Pavilion, a new junior football oval, cricket nets, a pump track, a fenced off dog area, native green spaces, a perimeter path and new gathering spaces co-designed with local Elders.

The Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan was adopted by Council in September this year after an extensive community engagement process.

The design phase is underway, with construction anticipated to be completed in the next few years.

The City has budgeted for the remaining $4 million required to complete the upgrades.

The Hilton Park project was one of 13 successful projects in Western Australia that are sharing in just over $79 million.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge noted "Hilton Park is a much-loved and popular sports and recreation precinct that serves not just the local community, but also players and patrons from across Perth who attend sporting events. It's a hub of activity for local clubs, the Men's Shed, walkers and dog owners.

"The community really engaged with developing this vision for the precinct and I'm delighted that the Federal Government has committed $3.75million to help us deliver it.

"Fremantle people deeply value our parks and natural areas, so this investment will make a real difference to the everyday lives of the residents."
