read moreCity of Gold Coast has unveiled proposed plans to transform Surfers Paradise which include more greenery and beachside pavilions as a part of a bid to recreate Cavill Mall and Avenue as a world class visitor precinct.
The proposed designs focus on creating a space which has a vibrant atmosphere for activation by day and night and is safe all while providing for tourism, nightlife, entertainment and use for families.
The City is seeking feedback from the public about the concept designs to revitalise Surfers Paradise’s Cavill Mall, Cavill Avenue and The Esplanade.
Mayor Tom Tate noted “We listened when the community said work needed to be done to ensure Surfers Paradise has space for families, is safe, is more pedestrian friendly, has more seating, has meeting places, and has more shade and trees.
“The proposed revitalisation hits all those targets in a way which will help the public rekindle a love of Surfers Paradise.
“The upgrades will build community pride, improve small business opportunities, and support tourism in the Surfers Paradise area.
“We’re now asking the community what they think of the new designs which include increased shade and greenery along the beach and Cavill Mall, beachside pavilions, garden rooms, and turfed areas for rest and relaxation, and a water play plaza.”
The City has committed $40 million over the next five years to fund the first stage of the revitalisation plan which will incorporate Cavill Mall between The Esplanade and Surfers Paradise Boulevard.
Pop-up consultation sessions will be held right across the city including Surfers Paradise, HOTA Markets, Pimpama Sports Hub and Mudgeeraba.
For dates and locations of the pop-up consultations or to complete the online survey head to gchaveyoursay.com.au/surfersparadise
Community consultation will end on 26th September.
