City of Mandurah investigates cause of Aquatic and Recreation Centre’s roof damage

City of Mandurah investigates cause of Aquatic and Recreation Centre’s roof damage
September 2, 2021

Investigations have commenced into the impacts and cause of roof damage at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

Identified in late May, the roof damage, above the facility’s aquatic space, has been isolated to the indoor 25 metre program pool area.

With the safety of customers and staff remaining the priority as the City of Mandurah progresses investigations, the impacted area has been closed, with an alternative entry to the leisure and 50-metre outdoor pool created.

Thanking the community and Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) staff for their patience and understanding during the process, City of Mandurah Chief Executive, Mark Newman stated “we understand that this is disappointing for our community and we are working to minimise any further disruption to our programs and services at the MARC.

“Right now, we’re working closely with specialists and structural engineers to determine the cause and extent of the damage, however the road to repairs may be a lengthy process.

“We need to find out the reasons why the roof was damaged before we create a plan to safely carry out the repairs. Thanks to our community for understanding while we wait on some important test results to come through.”

Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre will keep members updated via the Facebook page, and information is also available on the City’s website at www.mandurah.wa.gov.au
