Canberra-based fitness and recreation group Club Lime has just signed a three year, $180,000 sponsorship agreement with Diabetes ACT to support Canberra locals living with the disease.

Testament to the pioneering chain’s commitment to the health and well-being of its community, the alliance promises to help the community work to rise above diabetes by making a positive difference in the lives of those affected by this national epidemic.

Harry Konstantinou, Club Lime’s founder and Managing Director, a Type 1 Diabetes sufferer himself, explains “diabetes is a pressing national health issue and with our core business being health and fitness and our core mission being participation, it’s an organic progression for us to strive to both inspire and support this community.

"Resources and funding are eternal challenges within the not-for-profit sector and when you’re in a position to help, notwithstanding this particular cause being so close to home for me personally, it was a no-brainer for us to pledge what we can.”

In the next five years, diabetes will become the number one cause of death and illness in Australia, with already 1.5 million people living nationally with the disease, according to Diabetes Australia. By 2025, it’s estimated that 3 million people will be affected*.

Club Lime’s partnership with Diabetes ACT marries a passionate and motivated industry with an ailing one, this sponsorship specifically helping not only Diabetes ACT by way of cash donations but flowing on directly to some 300 Canberrans with sponsored access to 14 premier Club Lime locations, housing extensive state of the art equipment and services to support healthy lifestyle choices.

Konstantinou adds “I think we all have a certain corporate responsibility to contribute what we can to our national interests, health is obviously one that resonates with our organization and we hope this alliance is the first of many of its kind for us”.
