A group of high school students are leading a campaign for a senior's outdoor gym facility in the southern Sydney suburb of Hurstville.

Working on a school holiday project with Sparklife Coaching, the students James Fang from Sydney Boys, Kevin Xu from North Sydney Boys, Sidney Zhang from Danebank Anglican School For Girls and Jason Ng from Blakehurst, identified how a large group of Hurstville seniors would benefit from the ability to use an outdoor gym.

The seniors, who exercise at Woodville Park, Hurstville, contributed 100 signatures to a petition asking the City of Hurstville to provide more outdoor gyms. The proposal was backed by Hurstville Deputy Mayor Nancy Liu.

A Council spokesperson told local media that it had already spent $80,000 on installing outdoor fitness equipment suitable for seniors with eight fitness stations at Olds Park in Penshurst, four at Gannons Park, Peakhurst, one at Smith Park, Kingsgrove, and one at Timothy Reserve, Hurstville.

The spokesperson stated "Council is in discussion ... about the possibility of installing fitness equipment specifically designed for seniors.

"If this is to proceed, council will investigate funding opportunities to provide the facilities."
