Construction advances on HOTA’s Gallery and Green Bridge

Construction advances on HOTA’s Gallery and Green Bridge
September 26, 2019

The Gold Coast’s evolving cultural precinct is taking shape, with two key projects now well underway.

The new $60.5million HOTA gallery and $19.5 million Green Bridge from Chevron Island are tracking well, with a progress report presented to the City’s Transport and Infrastructure Committee earlier this month.

Mayor Tom Tate said the art gallery was taking shape, with a 50 metre tower crane on site, the lift core evident and the ground floor foyer poured today.

He commented “people will now be able to get a good idea of the size and scale of the gallery and judging from the height of the crane, the view of the skyline from the rooftop will be amazing.

“The lower ground floor for the 1000 metre² exhibition gallery for touring and blockbuster exhibitions has also been poured. As a triple A-rated gallery it will be a stand-out choice for international touring exhibitions and a major contributor to our cultural tourism.”

Mayor Tate said HOTA was working with the cream of the visual arts community nationally and internationally to bring a quality program of blockbuster exhibitions to the gallery to ensure it becomes a cultural beacon.

He added “and with the Green Bridge connecting HOTA to Chevron Island due for completion early next year, everyone will soon have more ways to access the precinct."

The Green Bridge to Chevron Island is expected to open in early 2020.
