Construction completed on Granville’s Eric Tweedale Stadium

Construction completed on Granville’s Eric Tweedale Stadium
October 13, 2021

Construction and finishing touches on the $11.3 million Eric Tweedale Stadium, located in Western Sydney’s Granville, are now complete offering a new home for community sport and providing residents and visitors a revitalised facility.

The stadium, which will be home to the Two Blues Rugby Union Club, has been a benchmark for sustainable construction with a key focus on an intricately detailed timber roof structure designed by dwp|Design Worldwide Partnership. Lead Designer and Project Architect of the stadium Ivana Simkovic of dwp|Design Worldwide Partnership said the Stadium was a benchmark in terms of cost effectiveness, efficiency, design quality and sustainability.

Cumberland City Council Mayor, Steve Christou advised “we’re delighted to make Granville home to community sport and provide our residents and visitors with a revitalised facility,”

“Its unique design is commendable, with the roof blending into the existing tree canopy and opening onto the new pitch.”

Despite the impacts of COVID-19, the Stadium, which has been in construction since June 2020, is now complete and includes:

  • Players, home/away, male and female, and referees change rooms
  • Strength training gym
  • Multipurpose room, first aid, admin room and canteen and a grandstand for 760 seats.
  • Hearing loop and lift access
  • A function room with adjoining commercial kitchen and viewing deck on Level 1.
  • Underground stormwater system and incoming services including gas, water, sewer, and communications.

In separate works, the field has been reconstructed, returfed and has new lighting, stormwater drainage and irrigation

Simkovic of dwp|Design Worldwide Partnership notes “the Stadium has been designed with the best practice principles of sustainability and simple form which will seamlessly blend into the existing Granville Park and surrounding neighbourhood."

The project is jointly funded by the Greater Sports Facility Fund and Cumberland City Council.
