read moreSnowy Monaro Regional Council has advised that construction of the new $15 million multi-purpose Cooma Regional Sports Facility is set to commence next month.
The Cooma Regional Sports Facility will be located on the sports ground at Monaro High School and once complete, the three-court indoor sports facility will be suitable for hosting regional sports tournaments including basketball, netball, athletics, cricket and many more sports.
This state-of-the-art sporting precinct has been funded by the NSW Government with Acting Premier Paul Toole stating the regional level facility will be a major boost for sport and recreation in the Snowy Monaro region adding “this is a big win for Snowy Monaro, not only for local sporting groups but for the local visitor economy.”
NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said well-developed sporting facilities are an integral part of increasing participation and noted “providing communities with access to quality, fit-for-purpose facilities ensures more people can stay healthy, active and connected.
“This new multi-purpose sports facility will mean local residents have more options, more often, promoting healthier and happier lifestyles.”
Local State Member for Monaro Nichole Overall said the facility will attract athletes from near and far and advised “due to our climate, indoor sports facilities are a necessity and the Cooma Regional Sports Facility will allow athletes and children to take part in a range of sporting codes year-round.”
