Convention Centre boosts Darwin’s economy

Convention Centre boosts Darwin’s economy
May 7, 2012

Since opening in June 2008, the Darwin Convention Centre has generated $172 million in economic benefit for the Northern Territory capital.

From its opening the venue made a commitment to support Darwin's evolving position as an international business centre, the presence of a facility of the international quality and standing of the Darwin Convention Centre (DCC) has proved to be a powerful additional attraction for Darwin as an outstanding global business destination.

In turn, the DCC has attracted major conferences and events to the city and demand continues to grow with the Centre holding confirmed bookings for conferences and events through to 2015.

Just last week Darwin was successful in winning the bid to host the prestigious 2013 national conference of the peak national industry body, Meetings and Events Australia (MEA).

Darwin Convention Centre General Manager Malu Barrios said the MEA win was a win for Darwin and reflected the close working relationship between the Center and NT Convention Bureau, stating "the event will not only bring an estimated 600 delegates to Darwin but also focus the attention of the industry's media on the city."

And this week (9th to 11th May), the Centre will is welcoming the respected Australian Institute of Company Directors for its annual convention.

The high profile nature of many of the conference bids being won by the Centre, and the heavyweight competition they are winning against, is also evident in the bookings for a further ten events through to September 2014.

As a member of the AEG Ogden group, manager of some of the leading convention centres and entertainment venues around Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region, the Darwin Convention Centre is also making a strong contribution to the success of AEG Ogden.
