Darwin Entertainment Centre stages 89 performances since July reopening
February 11, 2021

With venues in the Northern Territory being among the first Australian spaces to reopen after the Coronavirus lockdown, Coryn Huddy, acting General Manager at the Darwin Entertainment Centre, has advised of how the venue has performed since it began operating at 50% capacity on 5th July last year.

In a social media post Huddy listed the venue’s achievements following its three-month closure, advising the Darwin Entertainment Centre (DEC) team was “proud of what was achieved” while operating the venue at 50% capacity.

He cited highlights including:

• 89 performances in seven different spaces
• 85% of these performances were community and local organisations
• 19,900 attendees
• 22 new relationships with local producers, promoters and performance groups
• 33 DEC presented and produced works
• 14 co promoted events with locals
• Three new community programs
• $140,000 of subsidies applied to facilitate community access and performance
• $98,000 of performance fees paid to community and local performance groups.

Huddy went on to state “I have been fortunate to have had a place within a talented group of people who care for each other, people in general and of course the wider sector.”

Last month saw the venue host the premiere of the new Australian film High Ground, with actor Simon Baker walking the red carpet along with director Stephen Maxwell Johnson, actor Jacob Junior Nayinngul, actor and producer Witiyana Marika and producer Maggie Miles.

Mike Harris will be taking on the role of permanent General Manager at the DEC next month.
