Designs revealed for expansion of Fairfield City Council’s Cabravale Leisure Centre
October 21, 2021

Fairfield City Council has revealed design concepts for the transformation of its Cabravale Leisure Centre into a health and wellbeing precinct.

The $23.6 million expansion and redevelopment of the aquatic centre in the Western Sydney suburb of Cabramatta aims to offer a “one-stop shop” for the community’s health and wellness needs, according to Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone.

The staged redevelopment of the Cabravale Leisure Centre, which currently has a lap pool, gym, sauna and cafe, is set to transform the site into a all-encompassing “specialised health and wellbeing precinct”.

The development proposal includes the construction of a new 25 metre pool and a new leisure pool with an outdoor deck and leisure area, as well as the refurbishment of the existing pool.

Plans also include the construction of a spa, sauna and steam room.

The gym area would also be expanded, and a new aquatic plant room would be added.

The expansion of the Centre would also accommodate 25 new staff members, including lifeguards, swimming teachers and plant operators.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone called it a “one-stop shop for seniors, people with disabilities and people recovering from health conditions”.

He said the new pool would be specialised for fitness and rehabilitation programs, the gym expansion would have improved accessibility in mind, and an “innovative” indoor and outdoor gym space could host boot camps and other activities.

The development application states the redevelopment focuses on the needs of the elderly and those with disability.

It reads “the purpose of the alterations and additions are to offer expanded facilities and services catering to the elderly, people living with disabilities and those recovering from illness or surgery.”

Council also notes a desire to “modernise the leisure centre, which will facilitate access to all user groups”.

The gym expansion is part of stage one of the redevelopment, while the various pool and spa constructions would form part of stage two.
