read moreIn a groundbreaking industry first, Fit Your Ability Chief Executive Scott Hunt is aiming to connect the fitness industry with the disability community, ensuring that exercise in a gym or with a fitness professional becomes truly accessible and inclusive for all Australians living with disabilities.
With a mission to make fitness in a gym or with a personal trainer inclusive for the 17% of Australians living with disabilities, Hunt’s initiative, Disability Fitness Australia, is aware that despite this equating to 4 million Australians - and with the fitness industry offering more diverse options than ever before - an overwhelming majority of people living with a disability feel that the fitness industry does not cater to their needs.
Hunt explains “we recognise that many fitness professionals are passionate about helping people with a disability, but there has not been sufficient awareness, education, or advocacy to facilitate this.
“Fit Your Ability has done more than anyone in the fitness industry to change this, but we recognise the industry is so much broader than our specialized personal training services.
“So Disability Fitness Australia is here to help extend our NDIS registration and more to the rest of the fitness industry.”
Disability Fitness Australia will focus on education, awareness, advocacy, and career opportunities for new and experienced fitness professionals.
Gyms and fitness professionals who wish to help NDIS participants will also be able to accept payment through Fitness Enhancement and Fit Your Ability’s NDIS registration.
While Fitness Enhancement Personal Training and Fit Your Ability will continue to operate as Australia's largest NDIS-registered fitness providers, Disability Fitness Australia will serve as a dedicated platform to cater to the broader needs of the fitness industry and the disability community.
