Disaster recovery funding available for Queensland sporting clubs
April 19, 2021

The Queensland Government has announced that Queensland sport and recreation clubs hit by extreme weather may be eligible for up to $5000 in disaster recovery assistance.

Queensland Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe this week opened the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program and advised “Not-for-profit sport and recreation clubs affected by Tropical Cyclone Niran or the March floods in Southern Queensland could be eligible for up to $5,000 to help with clean-up or equipment replacement costs.

“I’m encouraging community sporting and recreation club treasurers to go online and check their eligibility for assistance under the Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program.

“This emergency funding is available now to support clubs in need of a helping hand after Queensland’s recent natural disasters.”

Eligible clubs affected by Tropical Cyclone Niran from 25th February to 3rd March 2021 include those in these council areas:

•             Cairns Regional Council

•             Cassowary Coast Regional Council

•             Hinchinbrook Shire Council

•             Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council

•             Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire.
