Half a million visitors have gone through the doors of the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) since its opening in 2010.

The tally of 507,453 people includes patrons who have attended live theatre performances, business and community events.

The venue opened in April 2010, with Hotel California: The Eagles Experience making history as the first performance on the new stage.

A Dubbo Regional Council facility, its management contests the statistics show it has become a the focal social and corporate hub for residents and visitors to the region.

Council figures show 34% of its ticket purchasersare from outside the local government area.

DRTCC Manager Linda Christof told local newspaper The Daily Liberal that the theatre is highly regarded by major touring companies and Dubbo was regularly included in their national touring circuit.

Christof explained "our education program is very popular and we have school groups travelling from as far away as Bourke, Cobar and Broken Hill to experience quality live theatre on a professional stage."

Bell Shakespeare, Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet and the Australian Chamber Orchestra are among companies that have performed on the theatre stage.

Christof sees that patrons from outside the area often incorporate a visit to Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Wellington Caves and the Old Dubbo Gaol as part of their visit.

Shee added “Dubbo Regional Theatre is certainly receiving the recognition that it deserves with its exceptional design, professional and friendly team and appreciative audiences."

July is proving to be a bumper month with full houses for RocKwiz Live! On Sunday and July 15’s Kitty Flanagan show.

Also this month is the comedy play Bakersfield Mist, starring John Wood and Julie Nihill, Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium and tenor Mark Vincent.

For 2017, 287 people purchased theatre subscription packages of five or more season shows before the 27th January deadline.
