With its aquatic space having already benefited from a $20 million redevelopment, Nillumbik Shire Council, in partnership with management group Aligned Leisure, is now to undertake a major transformation of the Eltham Leisure Centre's health club area over the upcoming months.

The refurbishment will include new flooring, a fresh coat of paint and the club’s equipment being replaced with new, state-of-the-art Technogym equipment.

Nillumbik Mayor Peter Clarke explained “the world class suite of gym equipment being installed at Eltham Leisure Centre will complement the major improvements council is undertaking in the aquatics area of the facility.

“As a result of these improvements members will benefit from 24 hours - seven days a week gym access, allowing them to work out at a time that suits them.

Aligned Leisure, who commenced management of the Eltham Leisure Centre on 1st July, considered a range of different options for the Eltham Leisure Centre health club, before settling on Technogym.

Explaining the equipment choice, Aligned Leisure Chief Executive Shane Dunne stated “we are incredibly proud to bring world class equipment to the Eltham Leisure Centre.

“Technogym have recently been appointed official fitness equipment supplier for both the Athletic World Championships, taking place later this year in London, and the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be hosted on the Gold Coast.”

Dunne added that in addition to the high-quality health club equipment that Technogym provide, they are also industry leaders when it comes to environment and sustainability.

As a result, Aligned Leisure and Nillumbik Shire Council have entered into an agreement with Technogym to work towards implementation of their renewable energy solution that is currently only available in the European Union. This would see energy, harvested from the use of cardio equipment in the health club, used to power the operations of the facility.

Dunne advised “our quintessential purpose is to completely align our programs and services to the unique needs of the local communities that we work within and we understand that the environment and sustainability are incredibly important to residents in Nillumbik.

“As a result, we are now working with Technogym and Nillumbik Shire Council on an Australian first renewable energy solution.”

Technogym’s Australian Managing Director, Claudio Bertozzi is excited about partnering in the major upgrades to the Eltham Leisure Centre, commenting “Technogym is very proud to partner with Aligned Leisure in providing the Nillumbik Shire community with the best in fitness technology and end-user experience.

“The brand-new Technogym equipment will be integrated with the mywellness system, a cloud-based training platform that allows users to access a variety of training programs and tools to monitor and track their progress”.

The Council have also confirmed that the Eltham Leisure Centre health club, group fitness room and spin room will all become available 24/7 for members.

Dunne explained “we very deliberately added virtual fitness to the group fitness program as soon as we took over management of the facility.

“The facility lends itself to provide access to the health club, and both group fitness areas 24 hours a day and seven days per week. The addition of virtual fitness ensures that members training outside of normal facility hours will have access to an endless range of classes, any time of the day that they want, in a virtual environment.”

Mayor Clarke concluded “it is clear that these solutions have been designed to meet the unique needs of Nillumbik Council and its residents.

“Our residents can be incredibly proud that our Eltham Leisure Centre will soon be a leader in both world class health facilities and renewable energy solutions; the envy of leisure facilities in the region”.

All health club works will be completed in November and December, while the aquatic re-development is expected to be finished as of the middle of 2018.
