Extra FIFA Women’s World Cup tickets released for Queensland matches

Extra FIFA Women’s World Cup tickets released for Queensland matches
April 11, 2023

In just 100 days, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will land in Brisbane and to celebrate the milestone, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk joined fans to announce extra tickets to all eight Queensland matches, including the Matildas game on 27th July.

FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 Chief Operating Officer (AUS) Jane Fernandez shares “with 100 days to go until kick-off, we couldn’t be more excited to deliver the biggest and greatest ever FIFA Women’s World Cup across Australia and New Zealand in just a few months’ time.

“This is an event you simply do not want to miss out on - with tickets back on sale today (11th April), now is your chance to secure your seat and witness history in the making.”

Queenslanders are encouraged to join in the fun at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Unity Pitch, in King George Square which will be open to the public until Sunday, 16th April and will host come-and-try programs, football clinics, exhibition matches, and open-to-the-public participation sessions.

Football Queensland Chief Executive Robert Cavallucci adds "Football Queensland is delighted to welcome the Unity Pitch to Brisbane this week as we mark the 100 Days to Go milestone for the FWWC 2023.

"Throughout the week we'll have a number of our Football Queensland programs on display as we showcase our beautiful game in all its forms including MiniRoos, Walking Football and Powerchair Football.

"We encourage all members of our football community to get down to King George Square this week to get involved in the activity happening on the Unity Pitch as we count down to the arrival of the biggest global women's sporting event and celebrate this exciting milestone on the road to the FWWC 2023."

Queensland is the Base Camp for the Australia, Brazil, Republic of Ireland and Nigeria teams throughout the competition.

The Queensland Government has invested $2.6 million to upgrade venues that will be used as FIFA Women’s World Cup training sites and base camps, including:

  • Perry Park, Bowen Hills
  • Spencer Park, Newmarket
  • Lions Stadium, Richlands
  • Goodwin Park, Yeronga
  • Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex
  • Beerwah Glasshouse Football Club.

Another $11 million has also been invested by the state to upgrade Suncorp Stadium specifically for the event.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will generate $232 million for the Queensland economy through the Legacy ’23 program.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk notes “Hosting the Women’s World Cup puts Queensland on the global stage once again as we support some of the world’s best sport’s stars.

“As we count down to this exciting event, I urge sporting fans far and wide to grab a ticket and join in the fun.

“I’ve always said you can’t be what you can’t see, so this is a great opportunity for young women and girls who aspire to play the game now and in the future.”

Brisbane/Meaanjin will host eight matches:

  • five Group stage matches (including a Matildas Group match)
  • one Round-of-16 Knock-Out match
  • one Quarter-Final
  • Third-Place Play-off

64 matches will be played across 10 stadia in nine host cities from 20th July to 20th August 2023.

Football Australia has developed Legacy ’23, a program that leverages the significance of Australia’s FWWC 2023 hosting opportunity to deliver positive and enduring benefits for Australia’s largest community sport beyond 2023.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is one of 10 Legacy ’23 Ambassadors.
